I’ve been throwing this thought around for a few weeks and hopefully by putting “fingers to keyboard” so to speak it will get the idea some fresh air and start to grow on it’s own.
I believe there are 2 types of people in this world. Storytellers and those who want to be storytellers. I’m not talking about the people who constantly recount “the one that got away,” or the one-uppers, but I thnk everyone in some way, shape, or form wants to entertain their friends in some way. Even singing to a loved one is a form of storytelling. A brief moment in time where the storyteller allows the listener to abandon their everyday grind and stresses and be caught up in the web of a story or song. We hear stories of the medival Bards and I belive that in some way, people today want to be like the Bards of old. We text message, we blog, we e-mail … Communication has never been easier then it is today and it requires much less musical talent.
Storytelling is an art that is still being refined today, and will continue being refined for all of humanity. Those who have mastered the art can not only be the proverbial “life of the party” but if you look at those above you in the corporate ladder, for the most part, are probably the best storytellers (communicators, or maybe actualy storytellers) in the organization.
